Growing Succulents and Cacti indoors is a popular trend and hobby for all levels of gardeners. If you are new to gardening, these are fantastic starter plants as you grow in your personal journey and knowledge of being a plant parent. They are very low-maintenance and easy to care for. Cacti are associated with the desert and can survive prolonged periods of time without rainfall. Succulents are also known for their ability to withstand challenging conditions. Both have an amazing ability to store moisture. In the wild, Cacti get their moisture from dew or mist. They store the nutrients and moisture in their tissues. Succulents have leaves and stems that contain special juices, along with stored water and nutrients that help with growth. Succulent leaves are thick and glossy which helps protect from unwanted moisture loss.
Succulents and Cacti require bright light to thrive. Displaying them on a sunny windowsill is an ideal location. They should be watered, but only when the soil dries completely. Overwatering can impact the health of your plants. In between waterings, spritz your plants with water to keep them refreshed.

- Exotic Décor Pebbles
STEP 1: ADD POTTING SOIL
Select the proper container for your garden. Make sure it has a drain hole. To create an even better draining system, add small pebbles or stones to the bottom of your container. Next, fill it with Black Gold® Natural & Organic Succulent & Cactus Potting Mix, leaving room for your plants.
STEP 2: ADD YOUR PLANTS
This is where the creativity begins! You can fill your container with Succulents and Cacti or create a small desert-themed garden-scape.
Carefully, remove your plants from their containers, make a hole in the potting soil, and add your plants. Remember to put on your gardening gloves to protect your hands, especially when dealing with the Cacti.
For our container garden, we planted the Succulent and Cacti in little groupings. Each grouping has a variety of sizes and styles of different Succulents and Cacti. After you have finished planting, water your plants in and add more potting mix if needed.
STEP 3: ADD YOUR DECORATIVE PEBBLES
After your Succulents and Cacti are set and ready to go, it is time to start decorating your creation with décor pebbles. Using a cup, small shovel, or spoon will be extremely helpful for those tight spaces between your plants. It can also help with more complicated design applications.
Start with your first color or style of pebbles and apply a thick later to cover any exposed potting mix. Once that is complete, grab your next style or color of décor pebbles and start spreading.
Fill in the remaining areas with a thick layer of décor pebbles to complete your design. You can also use decorative sand for an extra pop of color and texture.
Your design is now complete! Feel free to personalize it as much as you want! You can even make it a fairy garden and add those extra elements. The choice is yours!
