STEP 1: SUPPLIES

To get started, you will need the following supplies:

Terra Cotta Pottery
Matrix® Pansies
Fresh Herbs like Basil, Parsley, or Cilantro
Calloway’s Premium Container Potting Soil or Calloway’s Organic Container Potting Soil
Calloway’s Premium Plant Foods
White Spray Paint
Kid-Friendly Craft Paint

STEP 2: PAINT YOUR POTTERY

Let’s make Halloween-themed pottery! Learn how to paint ghost, candy corn, and Frankenstein pottery for your selection of plants! First, for richer colors and easier painting, spray paint your pottery with white spray paint.

How – To Make Halloween Planters with your Family

GOOFY GHOST

To make a goofy ghost, spray your pottery with extra coats of white paint for solid coverage. Allow it to dry completely.

When your paint is dry, add eyes and a smile to give your ghost a friendly face.

FUNNY FRANKENSTEIN

To make a funny Frankenstein-themed planter, paint your pottery with bright green craft paint or make your own by mixing together green, yellow, and white paint.

Give a good coverage of paint and apply a second coat if needed. Allow the paint to dry completely and add the remaining details like the jagged hair and funny face!

CUTE CANDY CORN

To make your cute candy corn planter, work from the bottom up. Paint the lower portion of your pottery with yellow craft paint. You can free-hand it or use a ruler or tape to make a crisp line.

Then, paint an orange bar above the yellow to complete the candy corn look. Once everything is dry, paint the eyes and smile to make your candy corn planter super sweet.

Now that your planters are painted, let’s add seasonal color or fresh herbs!

STEP 3: PLANTING PARTY

Let’s start planting! First, fill your planters with your selection of Calloway’s Premium Potting Soils.

After the soil is added, it is time to add your plants!

After everything is planted, water in thoroughly, allowing the water to drain out of the drain hole.

STEP 4: TRICK OR TREAT PLANT TAGS

Personalize your planter with a Trick or Treat Plant Tag! We have a FREE template for you to use, available in a version that you can decorate yourself or simply print the full color tags!

Carefully, cut out the plant tags and attach to a small stick, like a popsicle stick, and place in the potting soil. You can also use string and tie your tag around the pottery.
