How to Care for African Violet

Light: African Violets prefer bright, indirect light. Avoid direct sunlight, as it can scorch the leaves. A spot near an east- or north-facing window is ideal.

Water: African Violets are sensitive to overwatering. Allow the top inch of soil to dry out before watering. Water the plant thoroughly, ensuring the water reaches the roots. Avoid getting water on the leaves, as this can cause leaf spot.

Humidity: African Violets prefer moderate humidity. Mist the plant regularly or place it on a pebble tray filled with water.

Temperature: Maintain a warm, consistent temperature between 65-80°F (18-27°C). Avoid cold drafts and sudden temperature changes.

Fertilizer: Feed your African Violet with a balanced liquid fertilizer once a month during the growing season (spring and summer). Dilute the fertilizer to half strength and apply it to the soil, avoiding the leaves.

Repotting: Repot your African Violet every two to three years to provide fresh soil and more room for growth. Choose a pot that is only slightly larger than the current one.

Pests and Diseases: African Violets can be susceptible to pests like mealybugs and spider mites. Treat infestations promptly with insecticidal soap or neem oil. Leaf spot and powdery mildew are common diseases that can affect African violets. Avoid overwatering and ensure good air circulation to prevent these problems.
