Ready to start a new hobby? Here are a few ideas from our fabulous houseplant collection to help your indoor jungle grow with success.
OPTION #1: FICUS TREES
Ficus Trees are an extremely popular indoor plant. Ficus is the genus and there are many varieties that fall under this family of plants.
Ficus Lyrata or Fiddle Leaf Fig, is know for its large, violin-shaped leaves. It is favored for its sculptural shape and the dramatic impact it will add to your living spaces.
For a more unique option, try Ficus Elastica. Well known as Rubber Tree, it is an unusual plant native to the tropics of Southeast Asia. It attracts your attention with its oversized, oval leaves with a red center.
Ficus plants can be somewhat finicky, but with proper planning and care, it can grow for many years to come. Place in bright, indirect light throughout the day and remember to water regularly when the first few inches of the soil are dry to the touch.
OPTION #2: PALMS
Did you know there are about 2,600 different species of palm trees? Most are tropical plants native to South America, Asia, and the Caribbean. Palms also make wonderful indoor plants. They add a flair of the tropics to any interior décor.
Neanthe Bella Palm is an adorable variety known for its compact growth. This “miniature” palm is ideal for displaying on shelves or tabletops.
Rhapis Palm is another dynamic option for your home, and it is perfect for beginners. It can almost be described as indestructible for its high tolerance of indoor conditions. Rhapis Palm is a fine choice for large open areas of your home or office since it can attain height as well as fullness.
Indoor Palms should be grown in bright light all day, but it will tolerate medium light conditions. Regular waterings are important to help your plants stay healthy. They need consistently moist soil. Plant in quality pottery with proper draining hole. This will prevent standing water in the soil.
OPTION #3: SANSEVIERIA
Sansevieria is one of the most popular indoor plants around. Also known as Snake Plant, this ornamental plant has an upright habit in enticing shades of green. It can add color and texture to indoor living spaces, and it is known for its air purifying qualities.
Sansevieria can come in large sizes with tall spikes of foliage or explore the smaller options like Bird’s Nest Sansevieria. This rosette variety is perfect for tabletop décor or desks.
Sansevieria is a tough indoor plant and another great choice for beginners. It can grow anywhere in your home, and it is extremely drought resistant. They prefer bright, indirect light throughout the day, but it will survive in dimly lit spaces. Allow the soil to dry between waterings and avoid exposing your plant to temperatures below 50 degrees.
OPTION #5: SUCCULENTS
Succulents are a stunning addition to any location. They add amazing color and texture, plus they are extremely low maintenance. Succulents come in many different styles from indoor blooms to trailing growth.
Echeveria is the most common type of succulent. It has a clumping habit with a rosette shape. The thick leaves hold in moisture so it can withstand infrequent waterings.
Kalanchoe is a flowering succulent with exceptional, long-lasting blooms. It is prized for its abundant clusters of flowers and thick, succulent leaves with scalloped edges.
For a trailing variety, explore the possibilities with String of Tears. A close relative to String of Pearls, this unique option has creeping stems with attractive foliage shaped like teardrops or raindrops.
Succulents need bright, indirect sunlight to thrive. They require minimal moisture and can withstand being dry. Water once every two weeks in the summer and around once a month in the winter.
OPTION #6: FERNS
Are you looking for dynamic texture to add to your space? Try Ferns! Ferns are easy to grow, and they will reward you with lush green foliage all year long!
Boston Fern features graceful, sword-like fronds. It is a low maintenance plant that provides beautiful green foliage to liven up indoor spaces! These ferns can be used in hanging baskets, planters, shaded patios, or in well-lit rooms indoors!
The Bird’s Nest Fern has wide, spoon-shaped fronds that rise from a central rosette. This variety is epiphytic, meaning they grow on the surface of other plants. In their native rainforests, they can be found growing on the crooks of trees. These ferns grow slowly compared to others, but the fronds can grow to be about 2 feet long.
Ferns like bright, indirect light indoors. Try positioning them near a window that gets morning or late afternoon sun. Too much direct sunlight or too little light exposure can cause your plants to have poor growth, leaf loss, or turn the fronds yellow.

Cacti are one of the easiest houseplants to grow. They thrive indoors with relatively little maintenance. Though thousands of cactus plants exist in the wild, Cacti are actually a part of the succulent family.
