A rose is more than just a rose. This is the best time to plant roses! Roses are one of the most popular flowers around and are known for their vast variety of styles and colors. Planting roses require minimal effort and make a maximum impact on your landscape. In this blog, you will learn about our premium selections of roses, how to plant roses, and care tips for your gardening success!
Roses are a popular choice for Texas gardens, but they do require some special care and attention to thrive in the Lone Star State. When planting roses in Texas, it’s important to select varieties that are well-suited to our warm, dry climate, such as climbing Roses or shrub Roses. The best time to plant Roses in Texas is in the fall or winter when temperatures are cooler and the soil is moist. This gives the plants time to establish their roots before the heat of summer sets in. You can plant Roses in the spring or summer, but they will require more water and mulch to ensure water retention. Once planted, roses in Texas require regular watering and fertilization, as well as protection from pests and diseases. With proper care, roses can bloom in Texas from early spring all the way through fall.

HOW-TO PLANT ROSES IN YOUR TEXAS GARDEN
- Upon planting, treat plants with Root Stimulator, as directed.
- Roses prefer full sun – plant in a sunny location.
- Dig a hole twice the diameter and at equal depth of the root ball.
- Mix in equal parts of Calloway’s Premium Tree & Shrub Garden Soil with the existing soil.
- Place root ball in the hole and fill in with Tree & Shrub Garden Soil.
- Press soil around the plant and water in thoroughly.
For climbing roses, plant in a sunny location by a structure. Make sure the branches are pointing toward the structure when planted. Secure the plant to a support structure like a trellis, arbor, or wall. Use stretchable fasteners to avoid damaging the plant as it grows.
