Summer is here and there is no question about that! We all know that the Texas sun and the summer season can really take a toll on your precious lawns. We have some great ideas to help you maintain and keep your lawn beautiful throughout the season.
Here are 4 great tips on caring for your lawn this season!
TIP 1: FERTILIZE AND FEED YOUR LAWN
Conventional Fertilizers, like Calloway’s Premium Lawn Food, will green your lawn quickly with its slow-release nitrogen formula. Our premium lawn food is preferred for new lawns. Our specialized formula includes Sure Release, Fx Iron®, and Aqua Turf®. Sure Release allows for season long feeding, with a slow release cycle that will last for weeks beyond most fertilizers. Fx Iron® is an environmentally friendly source of iron. It helps keep your grass green without staining concrete surfaces. With Aqua Turf, you can ensure better water penetration into the soil, improving plant root-zone moisture capability, soil drainage and allowing water to work more effectively. Your lawn will use less water and maintain a consistent growth.
Fertilizers, like Calloway’s Organic & Natural Fertilizer will feed the soil by increasing the microbial activity, but it will require more time to green. The beneficial mycorrhiza is a healthy bacteria that stimulates growth both above and below the soil. Our formula is long lasting, it won’t burn your grass, and it is great for your trees, vines, shrubs, flowerbeds, veggies, and fruits too!

TIP 2: WATER PROPERLY
The typical lawn needs 1 inch of water per week. The healthiest grass prefers deep and infrequent watering. This promotes stronger root development, reduces chance for disease, and improves air movement around the roots.
It is ideal to water first thing in the day to minimize evaporation.
TIP 3: MOW CORRECTLY
Adjust the mowing height for a taller grass. Taller grass shades the soil and helps eliminate evaporation. St. Augustine grass does best at 2”-3” during its growing season and Bermuda grass performs best at 1”-2”.
When cutting the lawn, no more than 1/3 of your grass leaf surface should be removed. The blade of your lawn mower should always be sharp for proper cutting.
Mow frequently as is required to keep up with the growth. This may be determined by the level of fertilization, time of year, frequency of rainfall or water that your lawn receives.
TIP 4: PEST CONTROL
Treat for pests like fleas, mosquitoes, fire ants and more with Bayer Advanced® Complete Insect Killer or enjoy extended control with Bonide® Eight® Insect Control Granules, which is safe for your flowers and vegetables!
Repel mosquitoes naturally by applying Natural Cedarcide® to your lawn.
With these 4 easy tips, your summer lawn care is manageable and effective. Enjoy your barefoot- friendly lawn, all season long!
