Applying pre-emergent is a great first step to preventing weeds in your lawn. With that being said, remember to apply during the opening window! It’s best to apply pre-emergent from August 15th through October 15th.

Bonide® Weed Beater Complete is a popular pre and post-emergent. Be sure to follow these application rates for success in North Texas:

St. Augustine: 4.36lbs/1,000 SQ FT (2,200 SQ FT per bag)
Bermuda: 5.74lbs/1,000 SQ FT (1,800 SQ FT per bag)

If your grass is growing, continue to mow. Make sure your lawn is mowed to the recommended height for your type of turf and avoid removing more than 30% of the leaf blade. If you cut your grass too short, it can create added stress, making it less tolerant of drought. Slightly raising the mowing height can help reduce some of the strain on your lawn.
