Ficus Benjamina is probably the most popular tree-size houseplant.
Ficus Benjamina is a tropical tree with small pointed leaves and a graceful weeping growth habit. This is a relatively low maintenance plant, and requires only occasional pruning to remove old foliage. It has no significant negative characteristics. Ficus Benjamina is popular for sunny porches and bright spaces indoors.
Ficus Benjamina grows up to 20-40 feet tall and up to 15-20 feet wide. It is a strongly upright plant with weeping branches and will become large with age. This plant should be grown in bright indirect sunlight up to some direct sunshine from an unobstructed window. Ficus plants require even moisture, good soil drainage, and cannot tolerate standing water. It is not particular as to soil type or pH. This is a selected variety of a species not originally from North America. All Ficus species will tolerate indoor conditions once acclimated. They are often considered finicky because they drop leaves, but this is usually in response to a low light situation, being moved to a different light intensity, or from a watering problem.
