Golden Barrel Cactus

Golden Barrel Cactus is beautifully covered with bright golden, sharp spines. This is a very low maintenance plant. It has no significant negative characteristics. Golden Barrel Cactus is recommended for container groupings where shape and color contrast is needed.

Golden Barrel Cactus will grow to large, spherical cactus plants up to 2 feet tall and 3 feet wide with age. It grows very slowly, and with age can produce offsets, or pups, around the main plant creating a beautiful clump. This shrub should be grown in bright sunlight all day long. It does require minimal moisture, but as a Cactus can withstand being dry. It will not tolerate any standing water. It is not particular as to soil type or pH as long as it drains completely. This is a selected variety of a species not originally from North America. Golden Barrel Cactus is a fine choice for adding drama and interest to mixed container groupings on sunny patios. It will require Winter protection.
