How to Care for Pansies
Sunlight: Pansies thrive in full sun to partial shade. They require at least 6-8 hours of direct sunlight per day for optimal growth and flowering.
Soil: Plant pansies in well-drained soil that is rich in organic matter. A pH of 5.4 and 6.0 is ideal.
Water: Pansies require consistent moisture, especially during dry periods. However, avoid overwatering, as this can lead to root rot. Aim to keep the soil consistently moist but not soggy.
Fertilizer: Fertilize pansies every 2-3 weeks with a balanced fertilizer. Avoid over-fertilizing, as this can lead to excessive foliage growth at the expense of flowering.
Deadheading: Deadhead spent flowers regularly to encourage continuous blooming and prevent self-seeding.
Pests and Diseases: Pansies can be susceptible to pests like aphids, spidermites, slugs, and snails. Monitor your plants regularly and take action to control infestations.
Winter Hardiness: Pansies are generally hardy annuals and can tolerate cold weather. However, they may require protection from extreme frost or heavy snowfall.
Propagation: Pansies can be propagated from seeds or by dividing mature plants.
