Ornamental Pepper

Ornamental Pepper has bushy, glossy green foliage and colorful fruit that stand in upright clusters at the end of the stems combining to create an outstanding ornamental plant. The fruit comes in shades of red, purple, yellow, orange, black or white, and the peppers change colors as they ripen, so you may see several different colors on the same plant. Use them as bedding plants in the garden or plant them in pots so you can enjoy them on sunny decks and patios.

Ornamental Pepper is an annual with an upright form. Ornamental pepper care is easy, and you can expect fruit from mid spring until fall. This plant will require occasional maintenance and upkeep. Ornamental Pepper will grow from 6 inches tall to 3 feet at maturity depending on the variety, with a spread of 8 to 24 inches. When grown in masses or used as a bedding plant, individual plants should be spaced approximately 8-10 inches apart. It grows at a fast rate This plant does best in full sun. It prefers to grow in average to moist conditions, and shouldn't be allowed to dry out. It is not particular as to soil type or pH. It is highly tolerant of urban pollution and will even thrive in inner city environments. Most Ornamental Peppers are interspecific hybrids. Ornamental Pepper is a fine choice for the garden, but it is also a good selection for planting in outdoor pots and containers. It is often used as a 'filler' in the 'spiller-thriller-filler' container combination, providing a mass of colorgul fruit against which the thriller plants stand out. Some taller varieties can be used as the focal 'thriller' in a container combination.
